Having mice in your home or garden is not a nice experience, even if their presence seems innocent but having them around might be quite dangerous. Apart from chewing through walls and boxes in your home, they can also cause serious problems. Clear the clutter
It is essential to clear up any piles of wood or any other unnecessary piles that attract mice, this is because mice love places that are stacked up together and they don’t mind the messes around it. In short, they love it because it gives them easy access to hide and run away from anything trying to disturb them. So, make sure you clean up everything and avoid leaving papers, piles of wood, boxes, garbage lying all around inside and outside.
Use steel wool to seal up hole
Mice are stubborn pests and they are able to get through any openings even if it’s the size of a dime. Even as the hole is still small, they will gnaw with their teeth to make the opening a large one, so they can find their way in. The good news about using steel wool is that mice can’t eat through it. Simply dip the steel wool in any crevices, cracks or holes to keep the mice out, you can also add a bit of silicon to make it firm.
Use of peppermint plant or oil
Peppermint obviously has a strong scent that mice detest to smell. Peppermint is a menthol that can irritate the nasal activities of mice, and it is very potent in deterring them from the home or garden. As it know that mice has a strong sense of smell but weak vision which makes it easy for them to locate things no matter where it is through their sense of smell. Simply get a little peppermint oil on cotton balls or peppermint leaves and place them around the kitchen cabinets, doors, windows and any other suspected entry points. You can also try planting mint plants outside your home to deter mice from coming close.
Catch them with a trap
One of the ways to deter mouse is to set a trap to catch them. Simply find their entry point first or where you discover their droppings, then set your traps around those areas. Meanwhile you need to entice them with attractive bait like cheese butter. When they are caught, you can then relocate them to a distant place from your home and release them to the wild.
Get a cat
Naturally, cats are threats to mice. Therefore, one of the natural methods to deter mice is by using cats. When you get a cat, you will discover the absence of mice because they hate each other, also cats can’t see mice without pursuing them.
